Those Lazy, Hazy, Days of Summer

Joy's days are getting more relaxed--or, rather, her nights. She no longer has to give herself daily IVs of magnesium in the evening--she's been upgraded to pills. Yea! A great relief. Along with this improvement, Joy also gets to enjoy all the fresh summer fruits and veggies, previously forbidden. (Pull out your baby spinach, avocadoes, and poppyseeds! Joy has the best recipe for spinach salad with poppyseed dressing.)

Meanwhile, Joy still receives transfusion every one or two weeks while she waits for her red blood cell production to kick in without any glitches. Other than that . . . the waiting game remains the same. We'll be sure to update the blog as soon as anything changes. Thank you for all of your love and support!

Oh so good to get an update. I still check the blog anxiously waiting to hear news about how Joy is doing. What a treat to have a new post today! Glad to hear you are enjoying the fruits of this season, so are we! We planted our first garden at the beginning of spring and are just beginning to eat all of the wonderful veggies we are growing. Take care, we love you!

I got to see Joy and she looks marvelous. Joy--I just love your short, spiky hair! It seems like Joy is doing so great. Super fun to see her with the twins. I hope things continue to improve. I am praying daily that your body will figure out the red blood cells are OK. We love you! Karen

Dear Ken and Joy,

Last week, Kathy and I went to the Temple with our daughter and son-in-law. After the session, I went to the prayer roll to write down my usual list of names - I've gotten into the habit of placing your name in the prayer roll for quite some time now. When I opened the little white box containing the prayer roll, I discovered that someone had already written your name on the same sheet of paper. I thought that you'd like to be reminded that you continue to be in many people's thoughts and prayers.

I recently read an article in the Wall Street Journal that one's "Circle of Influence" is only big enough to include about 150 people. Because there are only so many hours in a day and only so many days in a month, we only have enough time to be able to impact (either for good or bad) the lives of 150 people. Our circle of influence may change as we choose to include new people in our lives, but those new contacts replace another name that we may not see for as frequently. Therefore, the list remains dynamic in composition but static in its size.

In your case, you continue to be included in the thoughts and prayers of many people. Although we may not see you very often, your are included in the "Circle of Influence" of many people. Thanks for your continued influence in our lives.

Yea, it is always good to hear that you are doing better. Not much fun in the waiting game, but at least you are able to enjoy some of the things that you were not able to earlier. We love you
